Tech news, reviews and code samples!

So, the big day has come and gone and Nike has announced and released the new 2011 Nike MAG shoes. These are the insanely loveable shoes based on the iconic Back to the Future 2 nike’s with the automatic power laces.

Sadly these shoes do no include power laces or automatic lacing laces, but they do have plenty of flashy lights and look exactly like the ones from the Movie!

How can you own a pair? Well thats where the sad news comes. First of all, Nike has only made 1,500 pairs of these bad boys, and 150 will be auctioned off each day for 10 days starting last night. These will all be auctioned off on Ebay and all proceeds from the sales will go to funding the Michael J Fox Parkinson’s disease fund.

Also Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, and his wife Anne Wojcicki, co-founder of personal genetics company 23andMe, are matching up to $50 million in funds raised by the Foundation between now and December 31, 2012 which is amazing.

But to bid on these shoes, you have to be a resident of the US above age 18 and well, will probably have to have a huge wack of cash hanging around burning a  hole in your pocket as currently almost all of them are going for over $4000 a pair.

There are some funny inconstancies on the ebay sites saying that :

And while they are not recommended for playing sports, these highly limited shoes will very likely command attention wherever they are worn.

in the tagline, you can also find it saying this further down the auction page:

The shoe lasts approximately 5 hours per charge and should last approximately 3000 hours in total life if unworn.

The 2011 NIKE MAG shoes are movie prop replicas inspired by the Nike shoes appearing in the 1989 film Back to the Future Part II. The 2011 NIKE MAG shoes are not designed or intended for normal wear and use as footwear.

Although, no power laces are to be found on these shoes, Nike does say that those will be available in 2015 (same year that Marty was in in the movie) so who knows, maybe we’ll see these shoes come back then?

For now take a look at the videos and head over to the auction pages if you’ve got a hankering for some space age shoes!
