In one of the strangest smart phone launches ever, also with one of the most leaked phones the Motorola Droid 2 (which has still not been officially announced) is apparently now set to start selling on August 12th (read 6 days away… and still not announced?) which was confirmed from a BestBuy employee.
This phone has had pictures leaked, videos leaked, flyers, spec sheets, training manuals and accessories have even started showing up in stores! It has had everything under the sun leaked out yet Verizon and Motorola have still not officially announced this phone, why with all the secrecy? The only possible reason I could think would be that Verizon just launched the Droid X last month and didn’t want to take any press away from Motorola’s beast as Verizon is pitting it head to head with the iPhone 4.
What we do know though is that the Droid 2 will be shipping (whenever it does) with a 3.7-inch screen, a 1ghz processor, it’ll be the first phone on Verizon launched with Android 2.2 Froyo preloaded (with Droid X said to be getting it in September) and will have the Mobile hotspot capacity (become a wireless router for up to 5 devices).
The Droid 2 is still very similar in look and feel as the original Droid except for a redesigned bezel around the edges and a newer, better keyboard that should please Droid fans all over the world and it’s faster core. Now all Motorola needs to do is actually announce the thing!
We’ve got the spec comparison sheet from best buy as well as a screen shot from a BestBuy notice detailing the launch (via engadget). Check out the pictures below for more information on the Droid 2.
Who think’s it would be absolutely hilarious if Motorola would pull a complete 360 on EVERYONE and change the phone up now? No keyboard? Bigger screen? Something! Anything to throw everyone off? Not likely, but it’d sure teach everyone a lesson or two about believing non official information. Hah.
